What? at least 6 kids? Are you crazy?

The title to this post is the reaction that I get when people ask how many kids we want. If that's what crazy is, then crazy we are! When the 6 of us are together in public, I also hear the following comments...

Man, you sure do have your hands full.
Are you done yet?
Ummm... don't you know how to prevent this from happening?
Haven't you ever heard of birth control?
You know, the world is already over populated.
Oh, do you do daycare?
Are ALL of these yours?
4 kids with the same dad? impressive!
You know you can always adopt.
Are you crazy?
You must be Mormon or Catholic.
You're going to have to get a bus soon if you keep having more.
Having them a little too fast, don't you think.
What are you... a baby factory?

Those are the most common ones I hear. And we only have 4 kids. The next question I get is why do you want 6 or more kids? The answer is not that I'm a mormon and all mormons have to have huge families. But that's what people think. My answer is this...
Let's say we have 6 kids. And our 6 kids have 4 kids each. We would then have 24 grandchildren. And if our 24 grandchildren have 4 kids each... we will have 96 great grandchildren! And that makes 120 people in just a few generations from us that could be good law abiding citizens. Now as parents, we are not perfect. I am very impatient, I raise my voice at the kids a lot, I don't discipline them all the time like I should and I don't play with them as much as I should. And I do get burnt out with them sometimes since we're together 24/7. BUT.... we do try to teach them how to be honest in all things, trustworthy, hardworking, and to have integrity, to love one another, have respect for themselves and others, serve others, be selfless, be family oriented, and to love God. If I want to change the world in a positive way and contribute to having a better society... its to have children and continue to teach them these things... and hopefully they'll teach their kids, and their kids will teach their kids.. and so on and so on. We do have other reasons as well... but that's what I tell people. It is true though that us as parents can really make or break our family line. Sooo.... for all of those that wonder why the heck we would like a decent size family, that my friend is why.

This makes me laugh. to this very day, I always thought 5 kids (like we have in our family) was "small" because my mom is the oldest of 11 and each of her siblings has a minimum of about 6 or 8 kids! Then as I got older, I realized compared to my Oro 3 friends, 5 kids was larger sized. But I still have to remind myself that 4 or 5 is "big" by society's standards. So it cracks me up that people give you funny comments for having such a "big" family. Coming from 1st ward, you know. 4 is nothing! :) And crazy how you're automatically "mormon or catholic" if you have more than 1/2 a child! Anyway, funny stuff.

YOu have cute kids and I can tell you love being a mom. If you can do 2 more, more power to you!

and that my friend...is why you are blessed to have children. The Lord knows His little ones are in special hands. You are an incredible mother and I know Jason total rocks the house too. I am so thankful for your example in so many things that you do. I especially love this explanation. Man I can't wait to have a heart to heart with you. You are kind to keep focused and keep your heart on things that matter...as Pres. Uchtdorf has previously mentioned. Don't mind all those silly folks...your kind example will soften up some of those random and seriously crazy commentators...reminds me of the Olympic commentators...sometimes I must say if not always...they are pointless. Okay anyways....I loved this post b/c it really made me think about some things and I like to see how you think. Love you
